Where to walk your dog Staffordshire and Shropshire
The Doggies Retreats Daily Dog Walks
Dependant on the age and agility of the day’s boarders, we tailor each days walks to suit them. Dogs need stimulation and regardless of how nice your garden they will soon get bored of sniffing around it. There is always some kind of dog walk within minutes of all households, generally these are make do walks for the dog owner who has no time to offer their dog anything different.
Walks such as these have no place at the Doggies Retreat as we aim to deliver an action packed day full of Fun, Frolic’s and Freedom. To meet this end we travel many miles daily with the view to providing each boarder with a day they will always remember.
Set out below is a list of some of our favourite walks so please take the time to view them. They each link to a Walk Photo Gallery and in some cases a Video Gallery. Enjoy!

This walk has everything. Beautiful scenery, large lakes and a great coffee house
Tyrley Locks in Woodseaves near Market Drayton Shropshire

Superb dog walk loved by all. Fresh water stream runs through acres of protected land
All weather dog walk where your dog always comes back clean regardless of weather
Prees Heath near Witchurch Shropshire
Loggerheads Woods known by the locals as the Burntwood is very close to being my favourite walk. You can really look forward to going there especially if you have a few Labs’ or Springer’s in tow.
It has everything an outgoing dog could wish for from rich woodland to swamp pits and a secret large pond that even I didn’t find out about until a year in. See pictures and videos of Loggerheads Woods here
Type of walk: - Footpath - Dry mostly - Slow river with pools
Buntingsdale is a short walk and if all you did was walk it then it would be over in 15 mins. If you have water dogs then you can spend a few hours there as the dogs just love it.
There is a large shallow pool (3ft) below some rapids and some deeper areas for the more adventurous dog. Alfie the Newfoundland that stays with me enjoys Water Polo down there See pictures and videos of Buntingsdale River here
Type of walk: - Has everything both us and the dogs could wish for.
Dimmingsdale is situated between Oakamoor and Alton and is very close to Alton Towers. It is popular amongst Ramblers and Dog Lovers. It has everything you could wish for.
There is a river than runs centre of the two main paths and numerous large lakes have formed between the dams. It is rich in Woodland and is a haven for all breeds of dog. See pictures and videos of Dimmingsdale here
Tyrley Locks dog walk isn’t what it was. As the walks popularity grew the Farmers patience threshold took a turn for the worst. The end result was less parking spaces and a general feeling that you were not wanted.
Having said that it’s still a Public Right of Way and many owners still go there as it’s a nice dry walk set amongst beautiful scenery. At the bottom you have the canal path that runs for many a mile.. See pictures and videos of Tyrley Locks here
Type of walk: - Dry over farmland - Footpath - Miles of Canal
Type of walk: - Has everything both us and the dogs could wish for.
Top draw walk on par with Dimmingsdale and Loggerheads Woods. It’s situated near Stone in Staffordshire but if you did not know the walk you would never find it. It’s a protected Nature Reserve with a clear water stream running through it.
There is just acre after acre of lush woodland and open pasture with footpath trails leading here there and everywhere. Great place to take a picnic and is somewhere you are likely to spend 3-4 hours of your day. See pictures and videos of Barlaston Downs here
For us this walk is a life saver because you can go there in any weather and still return with your dogs clean. The walk itself is Heath land with no mud or water. The ground absorbs all that the heavens have to pour on it whilst still keeping you dry under foot.
The dogs enjoy it because its open play with the added bonus of lots of Rabbit Warrens with which to stick their noses down. See pictures and videos of Prees Heath here
Type of walk: - Dry - Open - Level - Some Trees - Rabbits
